Style Secrets

Top 13: Unique Skin Tone

Adam is very familiar with the life of a performer so he is not afraid of the makeup chair. He has a very unique skin tone so his foundation is carefully matched with the flawless {me} by mezhgan medium concealor mixed with the Gerda Spillman Bronze Especial foundation. It is applied with the {me} foundation brush to achieve a soft finish. Next, to really give him color, he is dusted with the heavenly {me} matte bronzer all over, concentrating under the cheek bones and down through the jaw line to give him more definition. To get his smoky guy liner look, the black and dark brown from mezhgan’s sultry {me} eye shadow palette are layered and smudged out to get a really soft, smoky line. His lashes are curled to open them up, and his brows are set with Sephora’s clear mascara. He is blotted down with MAC’s medium Dark blotting powder to take away any remaining shine. One last pucker for his rose bud lip salve and he is ready to take it away.

Top 13: Blue Leather

For this, the first week on the big stage, Adam didn’t want to wear anything too over the top, but still wanted to stay true to himself. We decided on the blue leather from Diesel as it still gave him that rocker edge, (with that voice and hair, it’s a natural ‘lable’ for him!), but didn’t scream. the graphic Tee from his closet along with skinny jeans helped too! I did want him to inject a bit more of his personality into the outfit, so we added the black chains and key necklace at the last minute — hope you all agree it made the look!

Top 11: Ready To Fire It Up

Adam was ready to fire it up this week so we had fun in the makeup room. His skin was prepped with Dermalogica Active Moist. To smooth his skin and help the makeup last longer, the Alison Raffaele Acne Primer was brushed all over and topped with Gerda Spillman’s Bronze Especial foundation, worked through the jaw line down to through the neck. For extra coverage and spot concealing, the creamy Flawless {me} by Mezhgan in medium was carefully blended with a concealor brush. With his base set in place, it was set with Makeup Forever HD translucent powder. With a big fluffy brush MAC’s Matte Bronze was dusted all over the face to warm him up. What would Adam’s look be without those eyes that Kara talks about? To get his eyes ready, the dramatic {me} by Mezhgan liner is smudged along the top and bottom lash line. The smudger on the end was used to pull the color out so the line is not so harsh. Then, NARS Bali, a rich taupe shade, is blended along the lash line into the crease. Finally, his lashes are curled to make them pop even more, and his top and bottom lashes were coated with a thin coat of mascara. The longwearing {me} black liner used on his eyes was brought through the inside corner for extra intensity! He was ready to hit the stage and show the world his rendition of the “Ring Of Fire”.

Top 11: Esoteric

As Adam’s song was so esoteric this week, we all decided he should go the same route with the outfit, and I think we achieved that, don’t you?! The gold Skingraft jacket with Egyptian and Balinese details added to the mystery of the song. With that amazing necklace from Congregation of Forgotten Saints and his own deep v-neck sweater and pants, the look was complete. I think, out of all the contestants so far, Adam really has had his image nailed down from the get-go.

Top 10: Airbrushed

Adam was excited about this week’s look. He was admiring the new hair-do, and loving the idea of getting airbrushed! He was moisturized with Dermalogica Active Moist and primed with the Alison Raffaele Acne Response Primer. For starters, the Gerda Spillmann cream foundation was blended over his entire face with a foundation brush. This was followed by Dermacolor concealers to do some spot concealing around the face, and Amazing Cosmetics Concealer in Medium-Beige to conceal under the eyes.
With an airbrush, Temptu silicone base air foundations were sprayed in a thin layer over the entire face for a soft finish. It was set with Makeup Forever HD Powder and MAC Matte Bronze bronzer, which were applied with the {me}zhgan powder brush. Blue eye drops were used to make eyes super white and clear. He ditched the guy liner this week, so his lashes were curled using the me by {me}zhgan eye lash curler. They were topped with a thin coat of lack mascara to the top and bottom lashes as well as in the eyebrows to make the eyes pop. The final touch was Kiehl’s tinted lip moisturizer. He was ready to show off his new look and a different side of Adam.

Top 10: Simple

WOW! What a departure Adam’s look was this week. I’d talked to him about how I’d love to see him do his thing in a suit one day, and this was that day. The still, quiet of the song lent itself to a simple, stylish outfit that, as with Scott, paid homage to the stars of the day. Of course, Adam had his twist in that the suit was silver, but with the black shirt toning it down it gave him a new character to play with. I added the pocket square as an afterthought, but it made the outfit a little dandy. I think he could be another David Bowie with his characters – Who will he be next week!!??

Top 9: Pumped

Adam was pumped about choosing his own genre of a song. We decided to keep his look nice and clean like the week before! To start, he was hydrated using Dermalogica Active Moist, followed with the me by {me}zhgan primer to make the makeup go on smooth and stay on long. With a foundation brush, Gerda Spillmann Cream Foundation was buffed into the skin to even out his skin tone. To spot conceal around the face, Dermacolor concealer was blended with the {me} concealer brush, and Amazing Cosmetics Concealer in Medium-Beige was used under the eyes to brighten. With an airbrush, a thin coat of Temptu silicone base air foundations was sprayed over entire face and set with Makeup Forever translucent HD Powder. To warm the entire face, heavenly {me} by Mezhgan bronzer was dusted all over. Using a large, fluffy brush to define Adam’s eyes, blue eye drops were used to make his eyes super white and clear. Then, his lashes were curled with mezhgan’s reveal {me} curler, and they were coated with a thin coat of black mascara to the top and bottom lashes as well as in the eyebrows to make the eyes pop. Finally, his pucker was moistened with a touch of Kiehl’s tinted lip moisturizer. He was ready to show the judges what he had up his sleeve this week.

Top 9: Dimension

We actually had the great Howe jacket Adam wore sent for a photo shoot we did with the Idols, and he loved it so much we decided to use it on the show. We found the bright, crazy top at a great store called Joy Rich here in LA, and it added a completely different dimension to the outfit. I think most people would put a graphic tee or dressier shirt underneath, but not Adam. How do you guys think it worked?

Top 8: Blue Eyes

To get Adam’s face ready for his makeup, he was prepped using the {me} by mezhgan primer all over, which was applied using the {me} foundation brush. Then a thin layer of Gerda Spillmann foundation was blended all over the face down the neck and on the ears. Remaining spots under the eyes and around the face were concealed using dermacolor concealer. Finally, to create a flawless finish, he was airbrushed with Temptu foundation all over his face and down to his neck for maximum coverage. It was all set in place by dusting Makeup Forever HD loose powder all over his face and neck. Adam’s eyelashes were curled up with {me} by Mezhgan eyelash curler to make his big blue eyes pop. He was in good spirits and ready to be the one to close the show.

Top 8: Spray Paint

Adam had a definite idea of what he wanted to wear this week, which was light… however as I’ve said before, things change. He was specifically wanting a white loose knit distressed sweater (I did say specific!!), which we couldn’t find anywhere. The closest we got was a black one at Diesel, which we then used as a base for our outfit. But we decided to keep on looking, and found the amazing Michel Berandi leather at my favourite store, Traffic. The color was perfect for Adam’s original idea, and the unfinished edges sold him. We put it with white jeans from Levis, and a white tee from Alternative Apparel, the finishing touch being the Diesel scarf to break up the white, and a pair of his boots I sprayed with regular paint so they would crack… all worth the 3 hours we spent together on it this week!!

Top 7: Smoky Eyes

Adam was ready to rock out again so we thought we’d give him some smoky eyes.
To lightly hydrate Dermalogica Active Moist was blended all over topped with Alison Raffaele Acne Response Primer. To spot conceal around the face and under the eyes, Dermacolor concealers were blended with the {me} concealer brush. To even him out, Temptu silicone base air foundations were sprayed in a thin coat using an airbrush and set with Makeup Forever HD translucent Powder. To warm him up with some color, MAC’s Matte Bronze and Mezhgan’s heavenly {me} bronzer were mixed and blended all over using the powder brush. With his face on, he was ready for his eyes. Starting from the lash line, MAC Graphito eye paint, a shimmery silvery black eye paint, was blended and swept upward to the crease. His lid was topped with a soft taupe, MAC Omega. To add a little pop of color, a green cream shadow was blended to the inner corner of the eye. His top and bottom lash lines were smudged with a metallic blue black liner MAC Mystery Eye Kohl. Then in the water line, dramatic {me} pencil added some ultra black to his inner corners. His lashes were curled and a thin coat of black mascara was brushed to the top and bottom lashes and in the eyebrows to make the eyes pop. A matte lip balm finished off his look and he was off to please the crowd.

Top 7: Electro Mix

This week was a funny one with Adam. He’d had a friend of his make a hooded top for him, but it didn’t turn out quite how we expected. Loyal to the end he still wanted to wear it, but under a jacket. I had to step in and plead with him not to, and at the last minute we were saved by the Monarchy leather jacket that I had called in. Luckily he loved it, and I love that he did sneakers ( by jump!) for the first time. It was an electro mix, so to go too rocker would have been wrong… but it worked! He actually thanked me for forcing him not to wear the original outfit after the show. All things come good in the end!
